Selena Y Los Dinos

About "Mis Primeras Grabaciones" was the debut album by Selena y Los Dinos. The album did not do well despite its radio play of the albums single "Ya Se Va". During the recording sessions Selena at age 12 only needed a few takes to lay down her vocals, unlike other artists much older than her. Despite her talent Freddie Records felt that Selena needed more time to develop her voice before recording a second album. Abraham Quintanilla Jr. (Selena's father and manager) disagreed and was upset with the implication that Selena was somehow responsible for the dismal reception. Selena y Los Dinos left Freddie Records after only one album. The band went on to find sucess when they signed with GP Records. Then in the early 1990's Selena went on to gain mainstream sucess under EMI Latin becoming one of Latin music's most successful stars. Album Singles Ya Se Va Se Acabo Aquel Amor Parece Que Va a Llover Reissues 1995 – Freddie Records rereleased the album due to Selena's growing popularity. This release had more sucess than its original release. 2005 – Freddie Records rereleased the album this time with a variant album cover. About After the fall out with their previous record label. Selena y Los Dinos signed with Manny Guerra under "GP Records". In 1986 they released their second studio album "Alpha". For this album the band fully embraced the Tejano genre, a mix-music-genre of German folk, Ranchera, Mariachi, and Conjunto music. "Alpha" reached moderate sucess. It led Selena to win "Female Vocalist of the Year" for the very first time at the 1986 Tejano Music Awards. Production The album was produced by Manny Guerra with Abraham Quintanilla Jr. as executive producer. It was recorded between 1985 to early 1986 at "Amen Studios" in San Antonio, Texas. Selena was 14 to 15 years old at the time. Due to the fact that A.B. (Selena's brother and bass player) was unable to collect songs from the best music composers at the time, he began to write songs for the album. One of his first original songs "Dame Un Beso" became a moderate hit. Another AB song was "Corazoncito", co-written with producer Manny Guerra. Song writing contributions from the other band members Ricky Vela, Roger Garcia and the band's manager Abraham Quintanilla Jr. is also noted. Album Singles Dame Un Beso Con Esta Copa Dame Tu Amor Reissues 2006 – Q-Productions bought the rights from GP Records and rereleased the album under a new title "Classic Series, Vol. 1". In this the songs were remastered, some remixed. The song "El Tejano" (since it's an instrumental solo) was replaced by a song titled "Lo Dejo Solo", which was previously unreleased. Awards Won 1986 Tejano Music Awards - Female Vocalist of the Year 1986 West Texas Hispanic Music Awards - Vocalist of the Year 1986 KFLZ AWARDS - Female Vocalist of the Year Album Credits

About "Muñequito de Trapo" is the third studio album released by Selena y Los Dinos. The album contained the band's first English single "A Million to One". Although it had dismal reception it was a setting stone in getting into the English market. The hard work that went into this album helped Selena win various awards including "Female Vocalist of the Year" for the second time at the Tejano Music Awards in 1987. Production Produced by Manny Guerra and executive produced by Abraham Quintanilla Jr. The album was recorded at "Amen Studios" in San Antonio, Texas between 1985 to early 1986. This time the band did not compose any original tunes besides "Quando Despierto" written by Ricky Vela and "El Circo". A.B. Quintanilla III was in charge of gathering songs for the album from popular song composers. Selena was 15 years old at the time when she heard the song "Difirentes" by Rocío Dúrcal. It instantly became one of her favorite songs. When it came time to choose the songs for the album, Selena made sure that this song was among the songs to be recorded. She also expressed interest in wanting to expand into the English market. As a result, "A Million to One" was one of her selections. This album was the first time we saw Selena make her own executive decisions during production.
